Nail Guide: All About My Nails

Nail Guide: All About My Nails

Do you have this weird quirk about you or know someone who does where they aren’t comfortable unless something is done? Whether it be them not being able to leave the house unless they have a haircut, going outside and needing lipgloss, sunglasses or earrings? Yeah? Well I definitely do and it’s my nails.

One thing about me is that I looove getting my nails done. I literally can’t function properly or feel like I can step foot outside unless my nails are done. I get super sad and upset until my next appointment. Different?, yes I know but when you think about it, I’ve been getting my nails done faithfully for at least 7 years now and at this point it’s a lifestyle lol. But with that being said, let’s discuss some basics about why I take them so seriously.

Being in love with anything artistic and creative, I’ve always seen nail art as one of the most brilliant ways to express one’s creativity. I fell in love with it at such a young age. Going and getting pampered all while being able to express your or the technicians creative vision has always intrigued me and soon I became obsessed. When I first started getting my nails done, I went to the nearest salon located by my house which was owned by a mean old man. My experience at that specific one was…different to say the least and not in a good way, so I decided to find another one. Seeing as I had the same experience at this one as I did the last one, I looked for something else. It soon became a back and forth process of me finding a nail salon that had either decent or really bad service and would leave me unsatisfied. The idea I would want for my nails would never be executed the way I was hoping for even if I showed them a picture. The cleanliness of the shops and the products used were terrible and illegal or they were just a very money hungry business that didn’t care about your satisfaction. This went on for years until I finally decided that I’m no longer paying for half assed services and went on to find my amazing nail tech Mariel :).

Mariel has been my nail technician for almost a year now and she’s literally my nail fairy, confidant and big sister all in one. Not only does she execute every idea that I have perfectly , but she also does her own thing which I usually end up loving even if I’m skeptical about it at first because she knows what I like. She gets me. She listens to all my problems, gives me amazing advice and is always pushing me to want and do more in life. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be placed in my life so thank you universe for her. Anyways, here are some of my favorite creations of hers on me:

So yes, I really just wrote this post as an appreciation post. I was admiring my nails and my nail techs hard work even though it may seem like I’m basic which I am, but she pushes me out of my comfort zone. Also I put up this post because I miss her already, though I had just seen her this past Saturday haha. I literally love this woman and I promise we will have bigger and better designs coming soon. Especially since my birthday is coming up and I plan to go big or go home. P.S. if you’re wondering, she works at The Lacquer Room located in the Bronx which later on I’ll blog about because this salon is amazing and the owner is such a sweetheart. Her insta will be left down below (you’ll see she’s super talented). Enjoy lovelies and tell her Jaleesa sent you!
